McKenna Unit Detoxification Services

Program

Overview

Bridge the gap between withdrawal and the next steps to healthy recovery.

Named in memory of Joseph B. McKenna, a long-time recovery advocate and friend of Phoenix House, Exeter’s McKenna Detoxification Unit is a 20-bed program committed to providing safe withdrawal from alcohol, opiates, and other substances. Our detoxification and stabilization services first help adults safely detoxify while managing the symptoms of withdrawal, and then connect them to the next level of care: either residential, sober living or outpatient services. Throughout the process, every client is treated with compassion, dignity, and respect

Program

Description

Patients are admitted by registered nurses 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and each client is seen by a licensed physician. Located on a peaceful campus in rural Exeter, Rhode Island, the program is staffed at all times with a team of licensed professionals who work closely with each client to develop an appropriate treatment plan focusing on individual medical needs, withdrawal issues, and aftercare following discharge. General length of stay is 4-8 days depending on the substance of use.  Most insurances are accepted, including commercial and Medicaid Expansion insurances.  Some funding may be available for clients who are addicted to opiates and have no insurance coverage or insurance that is not accepted by the program.

The Mckenna Detoxification Unit is accredited by CARF, a nationally recognized standard of excellence.
