Phoenix House Transitional Support Services (TSS)

Program

Overview

Phoenix House Transitional Support Services (TSS),  located in Holyoke, Massachusetts, is the only all-male TSS program in Western Massachusetts. Patients are able to take advantage of this unique residential experience and build a strong core foundation of recovery that will promote growth and increase chances of sustained success upon continuing their recovery journey. TSS offers patients an individualized, holistic approach to recovery through integrative treatment planning including, but not limited to, substance use counseling with family, vocational, mental health and medical related goals, outcomes and interventions. TSS is a great place to begin recovery and prepare for the residential and independent living stages of long-term, sustained sobriety.

Program

Description

Phoenix House TSS is a short-term, 27-bed residential transitional support services program  providing clinically managed medium-intensity residential treatment for men who need further stabilization after detoxification. The program utilizes psycho-education groups, 12-step and motivational enhancement therapy techniques to promote and support recovery. Most patients have a history of chemical dependency and often have prior treatment experience. Phoenix House TSS programming is designed to bridge the gap between detoxification and active engagement in the state system of care. This period is when individuals who have taken a first step toward recovery are often lost to the treatment system, with a resulting return to alcohol or other drug use and recurrence of related problems such as poor healthcare and overuse of emergency medical facilities, estrangement from family and other sources of community support, exposure to HIV and other communicable diseases, unemployment, homelessness, and involvement with the criminal justice system.

With a four-week average length of stay, the program offers individual and group therapies, expressive arts, experiential groups, and stress reduction therapies as well as recreational activities. The program also provides education and support, treatment and aftercare planning, family education and meetings. Assessment of and education about co-occurring disorders and their treatment, along with medication evaluation and monitoring, are available as well.

Phoenix House TSS is accredited by CARF, a nationally recognized standard of excellence.
